Presents the field measurement results of the operational performance of water distribution networks in eight heat pump systems for centralized space heating in cold regions of North China. The results show that heat consumption amount during the heating season generally exceeds the reasonable demand. A thorough measurement and analysis shows that the main causes of the higher heating consumption are heat distribution loss, hydraulic imbalance and building envelope heat loss, and the first two causes are common in the centralized space heating systems and hard to be solved. Suggests to adopt a distributed space heating system using heat pump as the heat source.
